Its senior official is responsible for developing a program that ensures containment and decontamination of infectious waste. They should also select treatment methods that are both effective and cost-efficient.

Hazardous chemical wastes should be stored in a designated satellite accumulation area (SAA). These areas are located close to the activities that create the waste and allow for convenient collection. These receptacles should be large enough to accommodate all the waste generated during the activity. They should also be placed in a suitable position for housekeeping personnel to collect. This is important to minimize the exposure of housekeeping staff to hazardous chemicals.

It is also critical to remember that a satellite accumulation area should be within the point of generation to ensure that the waste receptacles are not overfilled. If overflow occurs, housekeeping should immediately notify EHS/ORS.
